Reduced Pressure Zone Device Essendon

Ever wondered what these things do?
Back Flow Prevention
It's an RPZ or a Reduced Pressure Zone Device which is a back flow preventing device fitted to hot and cold water supply pipes. You might have seen them out the front of schools and other large complexes (they are often in a cage to stop mugs from stealing them for the scrap brass). They are designed to stop water from 'backflowing' from a contaminated source back into the water main.
These RPZ's are in a new laboratory set up at a secondary school (St. Bernards College) in Essendon. They are required by law to be tested when they are first commissioned for use and then once a year, every year after that.
The gauge in the photos is for the testing of these and other backflow devices. We install and test lots of these valves every year
